Nautical but nice

Its my birthday on Saturday, and I have a dance event in the daytime, but in the evening I will be having a nice little meal with my family and Alex to celebrate (and then maybe cocktails?) I was fully intending to get a new dress until I checked my bank account and decided that wasn’t such a good idea. I have a ridiculous amount of clothes and one rummage into my wardrobe returned a dress still with tags that I bought for my holidays. Its a cute little nautical dress I got from work and I decided to wear that.

That was until this afternoon. My Mum (who is currently on holiday) text and told me to go shopping for a new outfit, shoes and jewelry and that she would pay! Better still she uttered those fateful words….’there is no price limit, get something nice.’

I got straight into my car and headed to the Trafford Centre. Its not my first choice destination for shopping, I prefer the city centre, but I really didn’t fancy driving into all the traffic, plus it does have a Selfridges, and all major stores. I ended up being there for 3 hours, because I am damn indecisive, but I settled on a cute nautical outfit. Now, I don’t care what anyone says, and I don’t give a damn if nautical is almost over, I have always liked it and will continue to wear it, so I considered this a pretty good purchase. I ended up getting a skirt from Topshop, which I had to get in a bigger size and pin but it was worth it.

I knew it reminded me of something whilst I was shopping and when I got home I realised it was the Miu Miu ads with Kirsten Dunst, its just a copy of this skirt:

The material is pretty nice. I got a top to go with it which is just a navy bib top with the bib detail colour matching one of the beige small stripes on the skirt. I found a picture but the colour looks a little bit odd here, the cotton is sheer so I got a navy vest for underneath.

I went to Faith to get some shoes and they had a ‘buy one get one half price’ promotion on, so I managed to get some wedges half price for summer. The shoes I got to match the outfit are tan, and extremely high, I love them though. The sales guy told me that they had just arrived this morning, so maybe that explains why I can’t find them on the website. You will have to make do with this picture from my sidekick. It does not do them justice!

I will probably post full outfit pics after my birthday, providing I don’t look hideously drunk in every picture. For a quick shopping trip I think I ended up with a pretty decent outfit and I’m sure I will wear each item to death separately too.

Whilst I was looking for something in Zara, I got out of the lift on the wrong floor and ended up in the kids section, so I made it worth my while and had a quick glance at the kiddie clothes on the way to the stairs, where I found this cute little tshirt that I had to snap a picture of.

Seriously, when I have kids I am forcing them to wear tshirts with French slogans. They had them in every colour!
